RAMESH AND KALPANA BHATIA FAMILY FOUNDATION DONATES
$7 MILLION GIFT TO UT SOUTHWESTERN MEDICAL CENTER NAMING OF THE RAMESH AND KALPANA BHATIA FAMILY FOUNDATION ATRIUM AT WILLIAM P. CLEMENTS JR. UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL (Dallas, TX, January 21, 2021) – The Ramesh and Kalpana Bhatia Family Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, announced today a $7 million gift to UT Southwestern Medical Center. The Foundation's largest gift-to-date is a multi-level donation including a $5 million gift to support the construction of the Neurosciences Tower at William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital and a $2 million endowment to fund the Ramesh and Kalpana Bhatia Family Foundation Distinguished University Chair in Brain Science. The Ramesh and Kalpana Bhatia Family Foundation is recognized for their contribution with the naming of the Ramesh and Kalpana Bhatia Family Foundation Atrium in the newly expanded William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital. The atrium is located on the 2nd floor of the new Neurosciences Tower. The hospital expansion includes a new 12 story tower, which will include 291 additional beds and inpatient clinical programs of the Peter O'Donnell Brain Institute and will position UT Southwestern as one of the leading neuroscience providers in the whole of the United States. Included in the addition is an expansion of the emergency department, which will increase capacity by more than 50 percent. “This is our community, and this is our hospital,” said Ramesh Bhatia, Founder and Chairman of the Board of the Ramesh and Kalpana Bhatia Family Foundation. “We are proud to support this world-class facility and their focus on advancement of medical science and research. Not only will this hospital continue to help our neighbors in Dallas, but undoubtedly will impact those around the globe.” The $2 million endowment to fund the Ramesh and Kalpana Bhatia Family Foundation Distinguished University Chair in Brain Science, will help establish UT Southwestern’s Peter O'Donnell Brain Institute to be at the forefront of brain and brain injury research in the United States. “Our mission to fund the Brain Science Chair stems from our family’s personal experience with brain disease and trauma” said Kalpana Bhatia, Founder and Member of the Board. “Our only granddaughter was born with a rare genetic disease, and at just 18-months had brain surgery to remove tumors from her brain to alleviate debilitating seizures. Without the incredible work of the dedicated surgeons, doctors and scientists our family’s lives and the lives of so many others would be gravely different. So we are grateful to lend our support to UT Southwestern’s Brain Institute and their continued commitment to brain health and research.” ABOUT THE RAMESH AND KALPANA BHATIA FAMILY FOUNDATION The Ramesh and Kalpana Bhatia Family Foundation is dedicated to making an impactful change around the world by funding innovative solutions and programs that enrich the communities and serve the common good.
