UT Southwestern, one of the premier academic medical centers in the nation, integrates pioneering biomedical research with exceptional clinical care and education. The institution’s faculty includes many distinguished members, including six who have been awarded Nobel Prizes since 1985. The faculty of more than 2,700 is responsible for groundbreaking medical advances and is committed to translating science-driven research quickly to new clinical treatments. UT Southwestern physicians provide medical care in about 80 specialties to more than 105,000 hospitalized patients, nearly 370,000 emergency room cases, and oversee approximately 3 million outpatient visits a year.
To meet a greater-than-expected need for specialty patient care in North Texas and the surrounding states, UT Southwestern is undertaking a $480 million expansion of the hospital. Opening December 2020, a 12-story third tower will serve as the clinical home for the Peter O’Donnell Jr. Brain Institute, consolidate acute inpatient care services currently provided at Zale Lipshy Pavilion, and add operating rooms, interventional suites, a newly expanded Emergency Department, and two new parking facilities. The project enhances both the quality of care and the efficiency of delivery to accommodate growth. |
